The Comet Chamber
Status Not seen in the pilot. In the Castle Guide it is an ancient impact chamber in the Deep beneath Torony Piros, visited by the Queen; later publications treat it as the spine of the Queen's ascension.
The Comet Chamber is a cavern deep beneath Castle Torony Piros where, according to the Castle Guide, a comet fragment fell centuries ago and left behind the sickness that became vampirism. A dark glass-like stone pulses with violet light at the centre of a thirty-foot crater, and Queen Kiraline visits it to meditate near the source of her power. The pilot never shows the chamber, but it does establish that a comet fell on Kormor Kirak and that nothing has changed since.

What the sources establishEstablished
- A comet fell from the sky on Kormor Kirak at some point in the past, and Eppy says change has not come to the city since. pilot p. 28
- The ceiling of the Bastion Inn is painted with unfamiliar constellations and a falling comet, and Szeret swears 'by the comet's tail'. pilot pp. 17, 28
- The Comet Chamber lies in the Deep beneath Torony Piros, reached from a passage that opens into a cavern so vast the ceiling is lost; static lightning arcs through the space without a storm. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber'
- At the chamber's centre is a perfectly round crater thirty feet across with concentric impact rings, and at its heart a dark, glass-like stone that pulses with faint violet light from within. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber'
- The floor is scattered with bones of not-quite-human shape, metal of no known metallurgy, and smaller crystal shards; the walls carry ancient scorch marks from the impact. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber'
- The stone exerts a pull on intention; touching it can begin a transformation into undeath in the living and strengthens the undead, and prolonged study develops vampiric traits. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber', GM Notes
- The Queen visits the chamber to meditate near her source of power, and has set wards that alert her if anyone approaches the stone. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber', GM Notes
- Vampirism in this world originated with the comet, not with dark magic: the celestial object left behind a sickness granting immortality, strength, and hunger, and the chamber was built as a monument and later a tomb for the first vampires. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber and Vampirism's Origin'
- Kiraline deliberately exposed herself to the comet sickness by ritual in this chamber, becoming the first voluntary vampire, and has learned whatever the first vampires recorded there in unknown languages. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber and Vampirism's Origin'; Book Two, 'NPC Knowledge Cheat Sheet', Kiraline
- The Deep, and so the chamber, is not connected to the upper castle by any normal passage; the only way down is the spiral stair in the castle's oldest tower. Castle Guide, 'Hidden Connections Between Levels'
Said, believed, or contradicted between sourcesRumored or disputed
- The Castle Guide describes the chamber twice and the descriptions differ: one is a vast cavern with a thirty-foot crater, the other a small circular room of older stones with a single hole in the ceiling to admit night-sky light. Castle Guide, 'The Comet Chamber' vs 'The Comet Chamber and Vampirism's Origin'
- The grounding sheet and the in-world broadsheets say Kiraline is 'building' the Comet Chamber to harness an approaching Crimson Comet and ascend to godhood; the Castle Guide treats the chamber as ancient and already existing. EC_GROUNDING_SHEET.md, sections 3 and 5; Castle Guide
- Eppy believes the comet's fall was not chance and that her grandmother's death was connected to it. Book Two, 'Character Profiles', Eppy Flinder
- A published quest says the chamber's own wards are failing as the comet nears, and another places a shaft dropping from the new tower's core housing straight toward the chamber. quest_board_desk/quests/Hold_Until_The_Bell.md; quest_board_desk/quests/Silence_The_Towers_Voice.md
What no source settlesUnestablished
- When the comet fell is not established in any source; the Castle Guide says 'centuries ago' in one place and 'thousands of years ago' in another, and the pilot gives no date.
- Whether the comet Eppy refers to in the pilot is the same object that made the Castle Guide's crater is not established in any source.
- Whether anyone but the Queen has entered the chamber is not established in any source.

Notes. The pilot never names or shows a Comet Chamber. Everything physical here comes from the Castle Guide, whose two descriptions of the chamber do not fully agree; the grounding sheet's 'Crimson Comet' escalation track is later publication material.
